I get the 'irony' about pub car parks but just because someone drives to a pub and parks there, it wouldn't necessarily mean they were going to drink over the prescribed legal limit or in fact at all. I've made several return visits to the UK from Australia and have often had lunch or an evening meal in a pub and despite loving a few drinks never have any when I'm driving. Sometimes, the pub car parks are for guests actually staying in accommodation, so it's not so incongruent to have them there really.
