  1. It's invariably the case that an actual in depth analysis of events during wartime reveals something different from the prevailing sentiment. This is particularly true when a popular movie expands on the issue. However I think there may also be some assumptions made by facts presented here. Radar wasn't infallible and often early warning was still left to the Observer Corps. An RAF pilot who flew in the Battle of Britain said in an interview, 'We never got them on the way in; only on the way out". The many British dominions at the time, despite their geographic size, still didn't present an abundant supply of pilots in the relatively short period available to make them effective fighter pilots. The bottom line is, that even with certain perceptions proved not accurate, there's no doubt that Britain did owe a debt of gratitude to those men.
