I was born in Wales and emigrated to Australia (from England) in 1970 when I was nineteen. At the time, Britons and Australians were all considered British subjects and so my loyalty to my adopted country was accepted with no requirement to discard allegiance to Britain. Things changed in 1984, when British nationals were considered foreigners and as such (despite my service in the Australian Army) my loyalty to Australia was put into question to the point where I could not hold political office or be employed in customs or border security roles. By simply submitting an application form, paying some money and attending a citizenship ceremony, I am now eligible (age notwithstanding) for those roles previously unattainable!

@joelc9439 Yes, Australia is Federal Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy, so legislation still has to receive 'Royal Assent by the King's representative in the form of the Governor General. It should be noted that the Governor General is Australian by convention (if not a requirement) and is a 'representative', not a 'delegate'. In 1986 The proclamation of the Australia Act was signed and brought into being by both Australian and British governments which basically removed the provision for a party to appeal against legislation in Australia through a British court.
