I sometimes wonder if it's an aspect of evolution. We are told that humans started life in the primordial 'ooze' and evolved through early primates, and now we are what we are. We therefore tend to assume that humans have all evolved at the same rate, and the propensity towards savagery only exists with a few people with mental disorders. The other day, my son mentioned that someone in the street had thrown something at his car because he came close to a youth racing a dirt bike up and down the road (illegally). I walked outside my house to see a group of people standing nearby. Just by virtue of me looking at them, it prompted a violent outburst by some Maori (I live in Australia) guy who was only stopped from assaulting me by a female member of the group. His reaction was quite disproportionate to the circumstances, and I've noticed this is a common thread with the Polynesian people who, by other estimations, are very warm and friendly people.
