  1. I think the ultimate goal would be to have no pilots. A sad day for aviation in many ways but with technological advancement in automation moving at the rate it is, it's not that difficult to see that coming. I hate to say that statistically, most accidents are linked to the human factor (I stand to be corrected) both within flight crew and air traffic control circles so fully automated systems are not necessarily something to put in the 'scary bin'. I've watched enough 'Air Crash Investigations' programs to only have a certain amount of faith in pilots' competency. After all, most of them are human😉

  2.  @nikobelic4251  I'm sure Airbus or Boeing don't care if their aircraft have pilots or not, but I imagine the airlines are the ones who will be considering the cost benefit analysis.

  3.  @nikobelic4251  I suppose you're right insofar as at the moment the responsibility for flight crew failure is generally proportioned to the airline. What I really was trying to say was that Boeing and Airbus probably don't have any particular invested interest in changing because the financial imperative of reducing costs by removing pilots is likely to come from the airline companies.

  4. I have chosen QANTAS as a preferred domestic and international airline for fifty-four years, right back to the old Boeing 707 days. Now, I only fly with them when other choices are prohibitive in one way or another (cost, availability, etc). My distaste is not just about past behaviour, costs, and reliability of service or even their failure to respond to correspondence either. Apart from general slipping standards in the cabin, QANTAS has decided to involve itself in the coercion of political and social agendas. Namely pushing the government's disastrous attempt to create the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders 'Voice to Parliament' along with other agendas created by gay and transexual activists. Then, they have the temerity to use a captive audience to promote the virtue signalling the Aboriginal 'welcome to country' that just about sticks in everyone's craw. Don't even get me started on their diversity and inclusivity recruitment policy. Just fly the damn planes for Christ's sake QANTAS!

  5. They thought there may be a bomb inside one of the suitcases and they got passengers to walk amongst them and identify their own! Wouldn't the offending passenger and luggage have already been identified by whoever reported the mobile phone message?
