I was a qualified civilian Australia Parachute Federation instructor back in the '70's. There were certainly some bad practices by some and a few cowboys in those days although generally there was a good culture as far as checking equipment etc. Most were quite keen to take a fairly regimented approach and didn't take short cuts. I jumped with quite a few military guys and didn't find that they stood out in any particular way.Must admit that it was always a relief to get out of the cramped conditions endured on the way up. C47 with the big cargo doors was a rare treat for us.
