I come from a military family. My father, mother, brother have a collective span of fifty-nine years' service. I served for a few years in the Australian army and have a daughter currently still serving after seventeen years in the Royal Australian Air Force. I've spent the last eight years regularly ensuring an ex-WW2 RAAF pilot was taken out to lunch until his death at the age of 101 earlier this year. I have great respect for those who serve or have served. However, the respect shouldn't be absolute or a religious doctrine. People should have no expectation of others in a public place or gathering outside an organised commemorative event. I for one will not be "called to prayer" for two minutes virtue signalling silence in a shopping centre or football stadium.
