I grew up in Wales (first) and then England during the fifties and sixties and got my driver licence before emigrating to Australia in 1970. I've returned to the UK on seven occasions over the last twenty years and noticed the progressive difficulty in finding parking spots, not to mention navigating the goat tracks they call roads in rural areas. It's obviously just a case of residential area being established at a time where car ownership was nowhere near what it is now. I lived in Malta for a couple of years in the sixties and now, parking is virtually impossible. I hired a rental car on my most recent visit and on return of the vehicle, had to park it about two kilometres away from our hotel, leave the keys with the staff and just tell the hire company where it was!
