  1. Paint thinner aka varsol is the petroleum derivative(same place as gasoline comes from)has a lower flash point than gasoline. Paint thinner aka turpentine is a plant derivative that stinks more than varsol but works like varsol has even a lower flash point than varsol. Lacquer thinner is a different chemical again and has a higher flash point than varsol but still lower than gasoline and is used for Lacquer paints only. Methyl Hydrate is wood alcohol which is like Everclear(only poisonous), so it would work the same as the grain alcohol.; mh is used to thin Shellac. That is all the paint thinners a painter uses.
