  1. I remember those days. "ReUse" stuff a 2nd or 3rd or 4th time instead of buying new. I reuse a lot of stuff. "Reduce" buying excess amount of stuff. You only "need" so much. Like...those that went insane and bought toilet paper at the beginning of Covid - Recycle...now this is where MARKETING got together thinking "lets put DUE DATES on EVERYTHING. People will toss it out when the date arrives. & buy more. "INSTEAD OF USING COMMON SENSE" I was taught to use my eyes and nose and taste-buds to tell if something is OFF or Gone Bad. Not some DATE. Because they dated everything. Laundry-soap, dish soap, Salt, Sugar, Vinegar, water, dry powders and meats in cans or on meat counters, Eggs, Milk, other dairy, dry cell batteries, makeup, Perfumes in glass bottles, Beer, whiskey, wine, house paint, etc. For some items, it was informative, for others IRRELEVANT. Pretty sure that Rat poison is still poisonous 10 years later. The rats react the same. . But get the people into thinking about looking at the date and they will buy just because the stuff they have is OLD such a bleach or ammonia. They saw a way to sell MORE by this "Best Before" dating ...not that there is anything wrong with the product after the date . Motor oil does not age in the can. Some things do age such Batteries (even when not used they are slowly discharging) so if it sat on a store shelf for years and you need one for your smoke detector, the detector knows right off if the battery is weak as it starts beeping once every couple minutes...meaning weak battery. You have the receipt, you take the battery back and buy another one as they are dated as to when produced or best before date. Milk, the same story. It has a 2 week shelf life and then you got to buy more as it starts to stink. Fresh fruit and veges do not need dating as you can see when they are rotting. , You got to use common sense. Otherwise manufacturers will take all your money...as you buy in excess.

  3. why not find another use for ground up plastics like in concrete instead of sand? Or housing bricks & blocks or into road surfaces. Because plastic does not last forever. Old "Sol" can break down a garbage bag that is exposed to sunlight or daylight over ONE winter. It crumbles. Or break it down to its essential hydrocarbons and make car fuel? Or don't make waste plastic. . Stop calling it LOWER GRADE PLASTIC would help. Finding a second use for it is the challenge....like Computers. That is basically a piece of furniture. The keyboard does not matter if it is VIRGIN plastic or mixed plastic. (The letters disappear on both-as it is painted on.) Hell, many parts of my car is plastic(it is about time) like the panel under the door and internal fender lining to slow down the rock chips and salt. You can't tell. You have to tap with your fingernails to hear the plastic sound. Sending plastic to land fill means it is covered with dirt out of the sun's damaging UV rays that BREAK IT DOWN. The whole concept of Landfill has to be readdressed when storing plastics. It needs exposure to the sunlight(direct or indirect) to break down its binders. Which is why "flexible plastic is no longer flexible" and just breaks, stretchable plastic does not stretch but crumbles. . I don't know what is missing after the UV treatment, but I wonder how similar the plastics are after they break down.? . Or we have to develop a plastic that becomes a food stuff...so you can have your coffee & donut together . After you drank the coffee you can eat the cup idea. Comes in a variety of flavors. It is fake food...which we already make.
