I "Googled" - republic...because I wanted to Read what it said it is. If you are old enough to remember the U.S.S.R. there is the curve ball. United Soviet Socialist Republic was a Communist regieme(rather than being a Monarchy). The U.S. chose to become a Democracy rather than part of a "Monarchy"(British) or (Spanish) or (some other).[because Monarchy was the easiest(one person) to rule over & control the mob. Democracy is where the people have a say as to how the country is to be run, their voice is through their elected officials that "Represent them". . Democracies have not failed as that is what happen in Great Britain. Those people got rid of the Monarchy ruling over them.(now it is more symbolic than actually doing anything). The people created a government that represented the people. They also had TERM LIMITS, cuz "an old bucker is an old bucker". Chances are good they are not listening to the people anymore. Voting them out or in makes them PERFORM "for the people"
