Yeah, in 1974 I had seat belts in a Volkswagan VAN(and no crumple zone) and did not wear the seat belt ...I was doing 60MPH(100KPH) going North and a car was doing 80MPH(135KPH) going South when he crossed the center meridian. I knocked out the windshield with my head. and went flying onto the other car..Head injury. Probably would have lost my legs if I was strapped into the car seat. It is a HIT & MISS thing with accidents. Some get lucky, some are not and some are in the middle. I was unconscious for 2 weeks. Should have had on the seat belt. Legs are fixable, head not so much. . The van was auctioned off and somebody bought it and cut off the cab and front end and welded on another front end and it was good as new.
