Roman culture & religion? Rome did not have any and assimulated other culture's religions and just made the names more Roman sounding. So the description of the God remained the same,(just a name change) which is a minor change for the Greeks knew the Gods they were worshipping because of the description of them Zeus became Jupiter; Aphrodite became Venus; Poseidon became Neptune; etc. The Greek empire existed for a long time 900 years so they had time to develop a fighting form and get artistic and theological and mathematics. Rome was just a bunch of grunts that took what they wanted and fought for it because they wanted it. Rome did not get artistic, or philosophical. They had Greeks and others who they conquered teach them new fighting methods. They got heavy into politics, where everyone was a backstabber "Es tu Brutus?" . Remember, during the reign of Caesar, the calendar month was measured by watching the Lunar cycle. Trouble with that is that it is not accurate to measure out a year (so the farmers did not know when to plant their crops as they would be out several weeks. Learning the secret from the Egyptians who followed the movement of the sun, Egypt knew a year had 365.25 days in 1 year. Cleopatra passed on this secret of time to Caesar. So now a year made sense for the farmer. When to plant always mattered. Everybody ate so everybody farmed.

Attitude matters. Greeks preferred control by Rome than by other Greeks=give up. What about the Spartans? They still existed, so they must have been a problem.? Numerically, Rome had more willing soldiers. that got paid to fight. Greece failed because it did not grease its fields of battle...Slip, slide and away. Fighting tactics were similar, Face them and fight in a field. Which is why Germania was not beaten by the Romans. They used guerrila tactics and fought in the forests so that the Roman army were not in formation. So Romes northern border ended somewhere in Germania. So it also was with Boudicca in Britain. She used the same tactics without realizing this is a way they could not fight and win.
