Actually, I am not surprized. Had my run since the mid 60's? German parts in a French Car? They never worked in the past (points, condenser, coil) so you know how long ago that was when I was working on them. They don't work in Renault or Citroen either. Sometimes, experience of years just has learned these oddities. I have forgotten lots of stuff but I hazily remember that. Had you gone to a Peugeot, Renault, or Citroen dealership "parts department" you would have gotten parts made in France.>yeah, they are that messed up< You expect it to work, but it just don't because many of the cheapo units are "the #2's that do not deserve the Bosch stamp" French made ones is a lower volume so they cost more. "They are THAT special"

Wiring is the bane to all mechanics. Give me a thrown rod anyday.

It got me thinking. "HOW are new cars better than old ones?" With so much b.s. in them, they are no damn good. I would rather have a 1960's car with simple wiring. IF THE CAR GETS STOLEN, YOU KNOW IMMEDIATELY WHAT IS WRONG BECAUSE IT IS NO LONGER WHERE YOU PARKED IT. This wiring snake pit is just so you can't fix it on the side of the road or in your driveway with a hairpin and a piece of wood and foil...from gum or cigarettes. SNAPPING ARSEHOLES. I first would have started...is this the correct key? Being stolen, I got to wonder "HOW DID THEY STEAL IT??" So much for the claim of ANTI THEFT DEVICES WILL PREVENT THEFT. If key is correct and nothing works, then I break out the disk grinder and cut the car apart....only because I have another motor to install in it with simplified wiring. The only comfort module I need is "Southern Comfort" in a bottle.

And yet it always can be the UNEXPECTED. I had a crank/no start on my car (different make, different year, different model) For one car I believe was gas engine, it was a faulty ignition switch. When you let go of the key, it shut off. Replace ignition switch with another and bam. DONE. That was a guess. Another time different car - it was a diesel engine and at NIGHT raining(of course) at a store parking lot. Under the lamp post I found a piece of speaker wire in the car & ripped it out and used it to run a jumper wire from the battery positive post to the fuel injection pump shut off relay. Now car could be started and stay running. I would have to pop the hood open and rip off the jumper connection to stop motor...or cut wire(but not having wire cutters in my pocket disconnecting it was easier. Fault was Ignition switch. VW Rabbit Diesel. That was guessing Where you went with this car, I would first had made sure about the coolant level. Had Honda. It has a low oil sensor that will allow you to crank the engine till the cows come home....if you are too low on oil it MIDDLE FINGERS YOU. It ain't gonna start.
