  1. Maybe the birds already knew there was nothing there.? That would be Millions of years - remember, there is flying FISH & flying rats& flying insects like Dragonflies and Mosquitoes.& house flies & flying ants, etc.

  2. Hey "Thoughty2". Can you trace the evolution of the TOY AIRPLANE (from folded paper jet to other designs of folding. Of course this is going to cover kites but somebody figured it out and that had to play an important part. I mean they used the priciple of the Chinese hot air balloon - the one with the candle in the middle to make paper hot air balloons. Of course paper quality had to get better so it is lighter and holds a fold into shape. or be light enough for a kite. I mean these must have been the models for full size plane. . The Boomerang was invented by the Australian Aboriginees A straight flier was a hunting STICK and the returning one was a toy. (Which probably led to the idea of a return flight.) The "abos" knew about the airfoil shape already in prehistoric times. As they would select the right kind of branch geometry and then shape it by scraping it with flint rocks. Which they still do today. . That puts the idea of flight way before that legendary Greek dude, Icarus. Abos. did not have wax., nor did the Emu or similar bird fly or have much in the way of feathers. . Finding their records is going to be in rock paintings MAYBE? Certainly that is going to be obscure stuff to find out.
