First off, the "Fatherland" reference ...Only Germany says Fatherland. USSR describes it as "Motherland". Russia never existed; it came into existence after the fall of the USSR. If it never existed before then it has "no historical lands" Just because it has taken up the mantle of a failed USSR, it cannot claim lands that historically were USSR is automatically transferred to Russia, as Russia is one of the states of a group of state countries that "collectively were called USSR" That means Russia is no different than Ukraine or Georgia, or one of the "Stan" states, or Latvia, or Belarus, or Siberia or other states I have forgotten(Romania, Poland, Yugoslavia etc as there were 15 others.)
