Russia should give back the Crimea to the Ukraine and accept that its only access to its naval port was through the land bridge involving Kerch as it had before as the previous president Gorbachev GAVE the Crimea to the Ukraine to maintain as that would be a burden on Ukraine. Russia still had its access route to Stevastopol, its naval port (whatever that route was.) What "win" could he get out of it? Russia gets all the reconstruction projects in Ukraine(kind of like what the U.S. does after it blows the living schit out of a country...then it goes in and rebuilds- it is a "make work project" employing Russians construction workers. Maybe? Or maybe not. After all it was an exercise, right? An exercise in Futility.
