@sergeikhripun україна is not окраїна. And if you were referring to the Pereiaslav agreement, the original paper is lost, and the Russian and Ukrainian claims about it's contents are wildly different. The misunderstanding probably dates back to the day itself, since they already needed translators even back in 1654.

@manofsan Just because it wasn't Ukraine doesn't mean it was Russia. And "U-kraina" can be understood as 'inland' as well as 'borderland', depending on your bias.
