Agreed. I guess that the only reason manufacturers don't provide info/parts (or do it, but at a price so high it makes repair uneconomical) is to boost the sales of new products without caring about the environmental impact and the product's life cycle after it leaves the factory or store. A somewhat similar phenomenon is "this year's model" i.e. moral obsolescence, the thing still works but is no longer trendy/attractive to use for people who give a shit about such things. Keeping up with the Joneses, meh. I guess that if the manufacturers were legally required to take their damaged/spent wares in for recycling or refurbishing, they might have an incentive to prolong the product's life by enabling repairs like it used to be done a few decasdes ago, but such legislation would hit the small manufacturing businesses disproportionately.
