During Alexander's time (300 BC), The region around Bengal (Modern Bangladesh) was known to have the Greatest Cities of whole of Ancient India - Including Pataliputra, A city which the Greek Ambassadors to the court of Mauryan Empire described as far surpassing the Glories and Riches of even Egypt, Rome and Persia. The whole region was known for its Historians, Writers and Poets who were famous throughout Ancient India. Even during the British Colonization, The Region of Bengal was known for its World famous Poets and Novelists, They were the first ones that wrote in English (A Language that was quite unpopular at that time throughout India because of Colonization) and they were the ones that spread English throughout India, one of the very first States in India to have the highest literacy. Any Historian would weep at the sheer Irony at how much Bangladesh has fallen since the last few decades.. From being a World famous Centre of Learning and Pride of Ancient Indian Civilization to one of the Poorest Third world Nation that cant even stand self criticism and is killing its own Writers and Poets who shaped its Identity for Centuries.
