Nehru got Subash Chandra Bose Assassinated, Veer Savarkar Imprisoned at Home, Jinnah to quit Congress Party and Dr Ambedkar to agree to become Law Minister. All this is to make sure none of these other Competitors would ever grab Power one day.

India wasn't even a Free, Capitalist or Democratic Nation till 2001, It was ruled by a Corrupt Dynasty called "Gandhis" who ruled over a Political Party called "Congress Party", Which was involved in Massive Scams and Corruption for decades while promoting Failed Ideology of Socialism. So isn't wrong to say India actually began its Modernization drive from 2001 and India has only been Democratic and Capitalist for 20 years..
