Takshasheela was its real name. It is mentioned in Ramayana that Taksha, A Successor of Emperor Bharata found a University in Gandhara Kingdom. Chanakya is said to have taught in Takshasheela University. It was open to all Religious people. Hindus and Buddhists co-exised in Ancient India and lived as Siblings, I'm not saying this.
