India and Pakistan were very similar for first 30 years after Independence, Actually I would say Pakistan was ahead of India Geo-politically and Economically under Musharraf's Rule, That was how bad Congress Era was for India. But Indians began to focus on IT (Information Technology) and Pakistan focused on ET (Exporting Terrorism).
