A recent idea is that Supernovae (Exploding Stars) might have been responsible for Origin of Life. How ? Some Supernovae spew out Ionizing Beams of Lasers. These Lasers are capable of travelling upto 200 Light Years and striking at Chemicals, Mutating them. However, For this to Happen, A Planet has to be on the Correct Angle for the Laser Beams of a Supernova to strike it, In other words its like aiming the Darts except from 200 Light Years away. If this Idea is true, Life would be Super Super Rare in our Universe. It needs all these 4 Factors to be considered - An Exploding Star, A Planet with Chemical Components suited for Life, Correct Angle of Strike and a Favourable Mutation to sustain Life. As you can imagine this is like asking for a Bullseye on a Darts Board 4 times in a row, Which is impossibly rare.
