In India, The Opposition Leader - Sonia Gandhi, is already a Catholic Christian. I don't think we should compare ourselves with Western Nations. There, They tolerate other Religions, Here we celebrate all Religions.
If you didn't know, British Parliament till recently allocated 15% of Seats for Bishops from Church. In India,This would be equivalent of allocating 15% of Rajyasabha seats to Brahmin Monks, Image that !!! Reservations based on Religion in Parlaiemnt !!!
Is that Real Secularism ? I don't think so, Its Flawed Secilarism, Not to mention Great Britain crowns a King in a Christian Tradition and did so recently and still have Monarchy.
Imagine if we Indians crowned a Hindu King in Hindu Tradition and still called ourself a Democracy ? So like I said, We should not compare with anyone. We are our own Nation and have our own Culture, Way of running the Government.

We are far from being a Global Power, Perhaps decades away, But at-least, we are moving in the right direction under Honorable Visionary Leader and PM Modi and his BJP Govt.
Under Congress Era, We had lost all hope as a country and we were close to being declared as a "Failed State" like Pakistan, Afghanistan or Syria because of Regional Disputes (Kashmir, Assam, Nagaland, Orissa, Arunachal, Jharkhand), Separatist Movements in these States, Militancy and Naxalism, High Rate of Crime, Corruption and daily Scams, and Pakistani funded Terrorists used to attack Indian cities every few month like Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi , etc.
Forget about being in good terms with Nations of the world, We did not even have good relations with our immediate neighbours like Bangladh, Nepal and Sri Lanka during the dark days of Congress Rule. Our Foreign Policy was a big mess and disaster under Congerss MM SIngh Era. Looking back at that, Today seems like a Golden Era, a completely different India - "Naya Bhaarat".
