  25.  @Starr6669  As a point of comparison, I suggest you read up on Jim Jones. I had heard of messianic figures before that tragedy, but had never thought much about it until then. It is curious psychology which we all like to think we are immune to. Many have experienced something, some very personal issue which they believe will be made better or solved by something external. Fear keeps many from exploring exactly what that is.
