@promethiac2641 It is a self-feeding system. We have, by far, the largest prison population in the world. I wonder how many of those currently incarcerated have/had a parent who is/was incarcerated. This is no excuse for a life of crime but does perhaps explain why it happens. Add to that the more general problem of having such disparity between the haves and the have nots. But hell, it's very likely we will continue the same systems which have failed in the past and are failing us now.

@Kill-The-Architect187 Sorry to jump in, but I will. Incarceration AND rehabilitation is a necessity for some. For others actual rehabilitation and diversion is enough. Treatment for mental health issues is necessary. Treatment for addictions is necessary. But would anyone fund this approach? It is perhaps much more expensive than simple Incarceration but we've proved that to be an ineffective approach. And we get folks in this endless loop which is an ongoing expensive system.

@quirk8841 How about a national election day then? Equality in voting locales based on the easiest places to vote. There are still places in this country where people stand in line for hours and hours while for others it's a 10-15 minute obligation.
