@yechezkelmendoza5698 No he shouldn't have. There a few set and standardized procedures for assessing mental health and what constitutes a threat great enough to restrict gun ownership. Each time one state or another begins to get adequate standards, the NRA and their lawyers fight them hard. Once upon a time the NRA was primarily run by and for gun owners. Now it is just a legal front for gun manufacturers whose sole purpose is to sell more guns. No matter what. I am a gun owner who believes in strong, fair gun laws. Even-handed gun laws. This kid should have set off many alarms and he shouldn't have been able to buy a gun. Same with the kid in Texas.

Usually a three day hold and if doc says you're fine nothing is ever registered. I had a second cousin who was held and didn't lose his weapons even though the family wanted him to.

@yechezkelmendoza5698 I own several guns and was an NRA member for 22 years. When they began to pay more attention and gave more credence to gun manufacturers and NOT to gun owners who are for real and fair control measures, I left the group and peeled off all my stickers. There are two extremist sides to this and it's us in the middle who are punished. Common sense is needed, but the two extremist sides are speaking the loudest. We lived for years in the middle ground, but I reject the idea that we should sell guns to kids like this one or the one in Texas. I don't know what is the best answer these days, but whatever we're doing now isn't working. People are dying and every time this happens I worry about other restrictions which won't work. We need somebody other than politicians vs lawyers for industry working on this.
