Nothing illegal about claiming asylum. It's US law.

At least to own and drive a car, you are tested and licensed, and must be insured....

@fishtexas5548 Asylum from ANY country. Try reading US law some time. And, we are party to international agreements that we will continue our asylum programs. Don't like it? Call your representative. It's how we do things in a Republic.

@johnmichaels4172 As to my ethnicity and my name: I am primarily native american. I'm sure there's a hispanic in the woodpile somewhere, but the last name was given by spaniards who wanted a first name and surname for record keeping. My tribe didn't use surnames at the time, so spanish surnames were given to us to use under their government system. We didn't cone to the US, the US came to us. I don't get caught up with drama over history. But know that the US has been and will continue to evolve. There is no constant except change.

Claiming asylum in the US is governed by federal law. Want it changed? Call your representative.

@johnmichaels4172 I'm glad you read up on our asylum laws! Now, who do you believe adjudicates asylum claims? Border Patrol? Nope. For people not having been caught previously or without identifiable criminal records, claimants are granted temporary asylum until adjudicated by an asylum judge. It's the system we use. I will agree that the laws allow too much flexibility and allow an executive branch too much leeway in how the laws are implemented. Again, this is something Congress can fix with a better, clearly written law. Why don't they?

@MissTXTee The immigration law specifically states you must make your claim on American soil. Now, this can mean an embassy, but (as of now) preclude you from walking over the border and claiming asylum. Same is true at the airport.

@MissTXTee Now, while the current law and agreements state that the US must accept asylum seekers, it does not (as mentioned) dictate exactly how we accept asylum seekers. This is where Congress could act. They can write and pass a law that asylum claims can only be taken at an embassy. Why don't they?

@John-sb6fy Well, call your representative. It's what they're there for.

@paulh7798 Finally. Now you're talking intent. Very few intentionally cause auto accidents. 99.98% of shootings are done with intent. Hmmm.

@paulh7798 Mmm, I own several cars and several weapons. I have never attempted to harm anyone or anything with my car, but I can definitely say I've used the weapons exclusively that way. See, I'm not anti-guns nor anti-2A. But I do believe that common sense restrictions will help this extraordinary gun violence which we are experiencing. I can think of several things which would help, but I am curious what your ideas are. Specifically. Common sense answers only, please...we are not arming second-graders.
