@ljsmooth69 I'm old enough to remember that Sam Walton used to run "Proudly Made In America" and "Union Made" ads on TV. These days I console myself by repairing solid older American made machinery in my spare time. We used to make stuff here. Now there are so many different items for which there is no American made option.

@dobsr1184 Do you have any clue at all whose and what kind of oil was to be transported in the XL? Read up on it a bit before you commit to your "cleaner oil" comment. Hell, I'd even buy Venezuelan oil before the sludge sand oil.

@dobsr1184 No, sadly we don't have more oil than Russia. They have much more in terms of proven reserves. Some reserves may be proven and yet not used unless the price is high enough...the tar sands oil, for instance. Nasty, sulfurous crap. We can still frack our way clear if the US producers weren't so greedy. They took it in the shorts in 2020 with shutdowns and the Russia/Saudi pricing fight. Then Biden pissed them off publicly on day 1 and they're now punishing us. Mid 2020 had the lowest oil profits in 25 years. Mid 2021 had the highest..... until now.

And yeah, I will talk about the crappy Canadian oil, just as I have even before Russia invaded Ukraine. It used to be that being a conservative meant you supported conservation of nature. You aren't going to change my mind about that oil. Like I said, I'd rather even put coin in Maduro's pocket before buying that crap.

@sharkyssite7492 Wrong there, Sharkbite. It (all of Keystone) belongs to a Canadian corporation. Yes, Americans would have been employed to build it. The pipeline and the oil would have belonged to Canada.

@dobsr1184 Depends on who you get your information from. And, as mentioned before, some of the "proven" reserves are only feasible at very high prices. It used to be that we could stick a straw in the ground and get oil. Now we frack to get good oil (much more expensive) when that runs down there are some other even more expensive methods of extraction. I live near pumpjacks. They are running sometimes (higher prices) and not others (low prices). They were off (at least the ones I drive past) for all of 2020. Now they're moving again (imagine that). Patriotism is a foreign concept to oil companies. Greed hath no nation.

Riddle me this, Blue: if we were energy independent before covid AND drillers have 5,000 permits in hand, why isn't it happening? Now, do wells stop producing? Sure, it happens. Do lots of the wells stop at once? Nah, not likely. $o, why el$e might producer$ $low production???
