  5. @AngryofMayfair-gi6kz The very real possibility is that now a bill like this will not be proffered or passed anytime in the foreseeable future. It takes agreement within the Senate, which they had; the Senate has rules in which one single member can require a 60 member majority vote, only bipartisan bills pass. Anything in the near future is likely to be blocked out of spite.

  12.  @dalejames8576  Do you have any idea what limits were contained in the bill? I will bet you don't. This was the most conservative bill on immigration we have seen in more than 40 years. We are not likely to see a bill like this again in the foreseeable future.

  13.  @burnedagain6187  An EO is not a law. It is only enforceable for the time period the one who wrote it is in office and is easily changed by the next guy. This is why they are ineffective.

  14.  @burnedagain6187  Trump got rid of all Obama's EOs and Biden did the same with most of Trump's EOs. Congress writes laws which can be changed only by later Congressional laws, not by a president.

  16.  @dalejames8576  Sigh. I get tired of explaining to you how useless EOs are. They are a stopgap at best. Robust laws are necessary and by now that chance has been ruined. Let's pretend Trump gets elected. It will take only one Senator to block any immigration bill, which will likely happen out of spite. So, he would then issue an EO. That EO would likely be changed after Trump's term and we'll be back in the same boat again. Now do you get it?
