Europeans carried immunities from multitudinous generations go through diseases which had been borne of farm animals which were not present in the Americas. Smallpox, chickenpox, plague, mumps, measles, typhus, etc. Natives had no immunities. Explorer accounts tell of "abandoned" cities they "discovered" which had been wiped out in advance of European explorers. Disease traveled more quickly than the explorers because Natives would visit European settlements and return with infectious diseases.
