  3.  @Capitalismrules  It is much deeper than just "up to the individual" when generational wealth is considered. Forty acres and a mule turned out to be as false as most Indian treaties were. Segregated communities after WWII had legal exclusionary language which kept black and brown people from benefitting from price controlled home ownership programs. This is one of the main reasons for our still quite segregated cities and suburbs. The fight to be able to even own a home in certain parts of town was still a struggle as late as the 1950-60s. Wealth building home ownership was kept away from some folks solely because of the color of their skin. When Ronnie Reagan said "just pull on your bootstraps" there was never acknowledgement that some were born with satin laces while others bore boots with no straps at all. Why do these facts trigger so many people?
