  3. I don't think anyone is suggesting that alternative power will completely replace fossil/nuclear. In the US the biggest barriers to alternative sources has been the random energy companies' policies. In my own state we have net metering, wherein you can sell excess power to the utility company. So many were doing this and the company was losing revenue. The company instituted a brand new minimum surcharge. I am now off their system completely and it's their loss. Using alternative sources makes sense in that we can preserve the fossil sources for other uses and later times. With greater supply and lower demand prices should regulate downwards. But energy companies have become addicted to huge profits, so they probably won't.
