  3.  @mightygamerjames  They lost big in 2020. They were under projections by $80 billion profit. They're making it up now though. They still export more than they import. 5 refineries shut down starting in January 2020. Profit is now going to the investors because they lost in 2020 instead of restarting the refineries. That's a big chunk of the higher prices.

  4.  @ZilogBob  That is the problem in a nutshell. It's been a tightwire act by so many different systems which are patched together with chewing gum. My own state produces more electricity than we use, so we feed 5 other states. When our generation lags the other states have problems filling the gaps and scramble for their customers. It's always a dance because there is no storing generated current. Companies are always responsible not only to the customers, but also (and perhaps mainly) to their investors.

  8.  @ZilogBob  Yeah, other places as well. Texas was having rolling brownouts, several east coast states too. The US grid is not a grid, it is grids. And a lot of them have just been patched together for decades. It's just dumb that it's so patchwork.
