@eehsua Yes, your example of one tiny solar array being destroyed obviously means that it would all fail. How foolish of me to think otherwise. Btw, I am sure glad these things aren't up to you...

Well, let's start by cutting it in half. My choice?

Well, we do likely have more than just the proven reserves. And yet...why does Fox always frame the conversation about alternative energy sources with "climate science bad!" There is no question our oil resources are finite. Any alternative energy production will stretch the time period of fossil resources. If we hold our consumption steady our kids/grandkids will be dependent on foreign sources of oil. And we would be at their mercy, just as we became in 1975. This generation did not see those lines for gasoline. Or see the drastic price increases. Republicans would have this as our future sooner?

The western United States has hundreds of thousands of square miles of federally owned barren land. Most of it has double the days of sun compared to overcast. Would it anger environmentalists to use it for solar? Absolutely. Could we do it anyway? Absolutely. Except for this lot in congress which makes bank supporting the oil industries.

@eehsua At some point in the near future we will hit the point in our petroleum production when we are required to purchase oil by the good will of another country. The longer we can postpone that date, the better it will be for our descendants. As I already have many grands and perhaps soon some great-grands, I begin to think more about their future than my own dwindling days. We need to begin a better diversification sooner than later. ✌️

@Cupid-Stunt There are areas of Alaska which have been made off-limits to production which are not included in these estimates. Trump, in the last days of presidency, attempted to give that land to the oil companies. Biden thwarted those efforts and was rewarded with a 50% price increase on gasoline. We produce the same amounts we did in 2019, and yet the oil companies are not yet through punishing Biden.

@Cupid-Stunt Biden's worst mistake was in his first speech to the nation, where he very publicly went after big oil. He should have given them the word in a private energy summit.

@eehsua I think the engineering site selector for the project was daft. I don't know specifics of the array, but I don't think arrays on the east side of the Rockies is a good idea. Most of the state of Nevada, a lot of the state of Utah, more of the California desert and a lot of the state of Arizona are ripe for solar and yet don't get baseball sized hail, generally speaking. Or many tornados. Most of it is low earthquake zone. Every source of energy has its pluses and minuses, but as discussed in previous comments, any energy we can add to the mix is good energy. 👍 Sorry if I came across rude, but I am tired of people fighting against logical ideas. Perhaps you were not, but many here do.

@Cupid-Stunt No, I meant can I choose which half holds their breath? I can think of a certain number I would pick.
