I'm glad all these republican congressmen always seem to have so much time on their hands, but I'm starting to wonder about all the legislation they were gonna pass to help with crime, inflation, the border, the supply chain, etc. Didn't they run on getting things done?

@Ryan The only railway which is federally owned is Amtrak. The rest are owned by corporations.

@Richard Kammerer And guess why that train wasn't in the previous classification for ECP requirements....because the lobbyists had watered down the proposed requirements to have all trains which carry hazardous material included. A great question would be: who did the lobbyists pay off with campaign donations?

@Harry Farber Do US presidents manage private corporations? What Congress did (about a year or so ago) was to loosen restrictions on importing baby formulas from Europe until the US corporations could get their act together. So, yes they "fixed" it in a way.

@harryfarber6435 I do blame the Biden administration for not reinstating the ECP requirements on ALL trains carrying hazardous materials. They have had to rescind and repair much damage done in those four years, but obviously missed this one. Deregulation is all fun and games until someone gets an eye put out.

@Harry Farber It's been interesting to hear the "small government, let's deregulate everything" crowd squirm over this debacle. NewsCorp is definitely squirming because their major investors are also Norfolk Southern's major investors. That's an interesting thing to note, don't you think? Which politicians were bought off by Norfolk Southern lobbyists, do you think?

@Harry Farber Each time a democrat has assumed the presidency after a republican, the last three times anyway, there has been enormous messes to fix. Clinton cleaned the Reagan/Bush mess, Obama cleaned the W Bush mess and now Biden is cleaning the Trump mess. And each time the democrats work to clean the messes, the Republicans whine about how slow the repairs are and how much work must be done and how expensive it is to fix... We know the problem, but right-wingbat media continues to encourage people to vote against their own best interests...

@Ryan-fs8ne The former head of the FRA stated that this accident would have been lessened IF the ECP brake requirements were still in place. A good question is who removed the requirements and why?
