@ginoperretta373 No one. This is about interest which has accrued to exceed the original loan balance. Edit: students will still pay the borrowed amount plus interest equal to or less than the borrowed amount.

They will probably be helped by this. This wipes accrued interest which exceeds the original borrowed amount. Ask them how much this will help.

@josephtingley654 It only takes a couple of minutes to better understand this move. It obviates interest above and beyond the original borrowed amount. The student still pays.

@100nortonfan7 70% of the $2.5 trillion of the added national debt incurred by the tcja went to benefit 3.25 million of the wealthiest people in the US. This is $130 billion benefitting 30 million not-wealthy people and yet this is the one that you cry about? Why?

@100nortonfan7 And expanding on the thought: who will pay for this?: ultimately it will be colleges and universities. When institutional lenders know they cannot continue to charge usurious rates they will cut bait and leave the market. Sone students will not be able to pay for college and enrollments will drop. Colleges will need to trim superfluous administrative staff to lower tuition...in a perfect world.
