Nice! Great job Mr. President! This is much better and much cheaper and will spur more job growth than handing $2.5 trillion to corporations and billionaires like the Republicans did.

Is handing out huge tax breaks to corporations and billionaires tyranny as well? We added $2.5 trillion to the national debt to do just that. This $39 billion will likely spur more growth than that $2.5 trillion did.

@leonblack2651 Btw, I graduated 43 years ago. My loans at the time were under $8k for the first four years and I could easily repay them. Now, even at at state university, an average student pays $25k per year on secured and unsecured loans. An educated country is a successful country. Burdening graduates with $100k of debt before they work a day is untenable. Shall we all be field hands? I think the USSR and China tried that before and it didn't work.

@Kill-The-Architect187 According to data from the Census Bureau released last week, construction spending by US manufacturers more than doubled over the past year. For April 2023, the annual rate reached nearly $190 billion compared with $90 billion in June 2022, with manufacturing accounting for around 13% of non-government construction. They aren't building these factories just to get a good social credit score, they are going to employ many thousands at well paying jobs.

@Kill-The-Architect187 And when do shareholders not rake in billions? Did you see what stock buybacks did for shareholders after the TCJA was passed? And CEO bonuses? I'd much rather relieve thousands of college students than give tax breaks to those who don't need them.

@leonblack2651 Wow, I guess you are not very old then. Candy bars were not 10 cents 43 years ago. I know, I was there. They were about 39 cents though, and yeah inflation exists. And yes, college is way more expensive now than it should be, according to just inflation. As is healthcare. Can we attribute all increases to just increased technology and employment costs? Perhaps. What would you think about an elected official dictating prices to colleges/hospitals/private businesses?

@leonblack2651 What the government could/should do is provide more funding for the secured loan program. Right now a student can get up to $15k in government backed loans, which do not accrue interest until graduation. The rest must be paid for with unsecured loans from a private lender, and these loans accrue interest from the time the loan is assigned.

@leonblack2651 A student can do 4 years at a state college and walk out with $120k of debt to two separate loans. How can we have an educated populace and not have them 10 feet under water upon graduation?
