@Lawrence_Talbot I am a gun owner. Have been for 45!years. I have no problems with background checks and requiring gun safety courses. We require licensing to operate a motor vehicle and no one has ever come to confiscate my car. I may be in the minority, but I would also have no problem with psychological exams for gun ownership.

Here's a question someone (Tucker???) should ask mtg. Since the gun free zone bill was not law until late October 1990, how did it affect her September 1990 highschool incident? Enquiring calendars want to know.

@GrouchoTM The issue I have with your comment is that right now no one checks to see if anyone has a history of mental illness or is on anti-psychotic meds. It only checks to see if you have been sent to a facility. Again, I wouldn't mind a psychiatric eval as long as the eval was standardized and hammered out by all involved. I'll pass whatever test it takes if it can stop one madman from killing one more kid.

@michaelsmith2733 Interesting that you bring up Davos. I say this because you need to think of who those people are and how they got there. We have had ways to combat the growth of income inequality in the US and policies to limit the disparities of wealth. Who has fought these efforts? Who worked hard to diminish trade unions? Who created "right to work" laws? Who lowered top end tax rates? Who created a different tax structure for investment income versus earned income? Why do we continue to elect the people who do this and then complain about the consequences? We create the perfect circumstances for oligarchs to exist who then show us that money is indeed power. There is capitalism and then there is unregulated, government sponsored, capitalist oligarchy. If you were to see wealth as a graph you would realize that there are only two lines....the stratosphere and the rest of us schlubs. We scrap over crumbs while the champagne flows in Davos. Don't listen to what a politician says, look at what they have actually done.

@pollytix7271 How about her story about Biden gun free school zones? Hostage situation at her highschool.... September 1990 Gun free school zone bill passed and signed into law..... October 1990

One might logically ask whether Rafael "Cancun" Cruz or Greg "Bud" Abbott has ever forwarded a bill to fund this "good guy" protection. The answer? No. Perhaps they may find funding for it at the NRA convention they attend in Houston this weekend... (again with that challenging sarcasm, hmmm)

@kevinpreston5590 Yes, and I have no problem with background checks. Maybe you weren't around before background checks, I was. So many people screamed how this was the beginning of the end. It wasn't. I don't mind regulating gun sales if it keeps the whackos from screwing it up for the vast majority of us.

@SABOARITI Heck, arm the kids too!

H Toc HCOC, my little foreign language stalker...howya dooin. Which accounts will you use today? How many do you have?

@kevinpreston5590 Is it fool-proof? No. Will it stop every whacko? No. Does regulation stop some whackos? Hard to prove. I do remember that one reason background checks were instituted was that felons who were banned from legal gun purchases could simply go to a store and buy one because no one kept records or checked.

@CaptainFrost32 Not a bad idea. I've also been reading about how so many of these have been kids and how they think it's that their brains aren't fully grown yet. Maybe age tiered ownership which can change with military service. No clips until 23, 21 if you've served. I dunno, I need to read more about this.

@richwhite3189 Well then don't serve. But with rights come responsibility. The second part of your comment is interesting. It sounds petulant. Or anarchical. Whatever you think works. You'll learn. The comment also reminds me that laws aren't written because of reasonable people, but rather for the unreasonable and unrealistic. The Bill of Rights is our contract between the Federal Government and We The People. And amongst We The People. It does not come without limits.

@richwhite3189 Hmm, weird. And you seem to comment partial and provocative statements for attention. Mission accomplished. I can and will judge you on what you've written. It's how human relations work. Can that judgement change? Sure. But for right now I only had the one comment to judge by. Maybe your comment made perfect sense to you, but it did sound petulant or anarchical to me.

@richwhite3189 Your last comment disappeared. Seems like you would not follow YouTube rules and there was a consequence. See? Another opportunity for growth...

@richwhite3189 Yeah sure.

@CaptainFrost32 Well, I don't think it can or should be tied to only having had a psych eval. Two reasons: one is that some who get sent for eval have nothing wrong and two, not all who have something wrong are sent for evals. I don't think this latest kid had a psych eval, so he could have truthfully answered no. And I think we can agree he was crazy. I like the idea of enticement for gun safety courses. I think it'd need to be something other than homeowners/renter's insurance though. I have several young guys working for me who have neither. Plus I know a lot of guys who could really use a gun safety course. My own brother told me about a duck hunting buddy who put some shot into the mud beside himself. He "swore" the safety was on. Words ensued. I've experienced wandering barrels at the range. Too many self taught.
