I once took a trip to rural Iowa (what else is there in Iowa but rural?) where I was asked more than 30 times if I am Mexican. Being Native with a Hispanic surname is a strange concept for some folks. I began to ask them if perhaps they were Canadian tourists. They didn't get my sarcasm...
