  2.  @LastOfUSA2024  And crying for a craven lust for power is disgusting. I have never understood those people who cannot see the world but through eyes which see only black and white. It isn't the way the world is made. Trying to make the world conform to one's vantage-point has never been successful. This is not to say one must only go along to get along, but rather that one does not win at chess by throwing the board.

  4. "When it grew?"...we paid for it through our extensive trade with China across decades. Every American who has purchased something with 'lower prices everyday' paid for Chinese expansion and raising wages in China. Why do you believe the US was not aware of it?

  5. It is encouraging, albeit temporary I think, to see the GDP of the US exceed that of China for the first time since 1980. Xi has his problems as we have our own.

  8. Um, sure. We did just surpass China in GDP for the first time in 43 years, and have reignited and repatrioted one industry in chip manufacturing, but I guess that doesn't fit your narrative.

  9.  @benalonzo1778  Yes, we are dependent on China for some of the raw materials for chip manufacturing right now. This would be true whether we make chips here or whether we buy the chips made there or elsewhere. What is your point? China is not the only source for most of these materials, only the cheapest. Since Chinese curbs on the export of some materials, the price of the raw materials has made US mining of them potentially profitable and it is now happening. There is always the possibility of the defense production act if the Chinese continue to limit exports.
