You're forced to spend every waking hour hitting the books. Your entire childhood essentially revolves around school and grades. Contrast this to the typical American whose upbringing consists of partying and the excess indulgence of other various trivial pursuits.

  2. The problem with conducting research on topics like race & IQ is that it will be weaponized by actual racists as a means of justifying their prejudice. This is why universities are so hesitant to allocate funding towards such areas of inquiry. The concern lies in the ensuing PR disaster rather than the legitimacy of the research question. Public perception always trumps academic freedom, unfortunately.
