  1. I was so excited at the title and the video delivered! This is one of your best videos of all time! I appreciate it as a history/social science teacher. This is a great, brief overview! I may actually use it in class. It fits in perfectly with my World History units at the start of year. I love the Simpsons reference! I wasn't aware of ancient cities in Malaysia and Myanmar, so that's awesome to know. Great points about the problems with cities, civilization, hierarchy, private property, and inequality. The thought occurs that humans were developing beer around the same time as cities, social hierarchy, and inequality, and beer is great at dumbing people down and keeping them in line. In Mesopotamia, the government gave people beer rations. Intriguing... The timing and content--about humans' shift from villages to cities and the accompanying change from circular cities to rectilineal cities--is especially interesting to me right now. I just watched an amazing video about how to turn a standard neighborhood into a village (rectilineal to circular). Folks are seeing the disadvantages of cities and wanting to benefit from the advantages of villages. Anyway, amazing stuff!

  5. I wish I could experience attending all of the colleges/universities and living in all the college towns. Well, a lot of them anyway. I think about how my life ended up partially due to the schools I went to, the professors and classes offered there, the people I met, campus meals, the cities they're in, the the relationships I was/am in, my career, the music I was exposed to... and how things could have turned out differently and I could have had a different life in a different place if I went to different schools. There are so many interesting and unique classes and instructors at each and every community college, university, technical school, etc. There are so many possibilities of intriguing classes I could have taken, what I could have learned, the experiences I could have had, the friendships and relationships, and who I am now... and I would like to experience it all.

  14. A video on sacred geometry in cities from a city planning perspective would be so interesting and unique! The YT documentary Secrets in Plain Sight blew my mind, and I will never see cities the same again. It's so interesting how European and American cities installed Egyptian obelisks (DC, Paris, London, Vatican), and how there are certain shapes, measurements, and proportions embedded in the design of these cities, which originate from ancient civilizations. I know City Beautiful would make an awesome video on this topic, and maybe just a little less conspiracy theory-ish than the documentary.

  39. What an intriguing and surprising video! Today the LA area has several downtowns, each pretty small. Driving, you'll pass them. Cities/metropolitan areas are beasts and LA is one of the strangest beasts of all. It's difficult to comprehend. If you start at the ocean and drive east, it goes forever. So many beautiful cultures and communities and tons of great vegan food options though! Thank you for the video!

  41. Great idea and very inspiring and hopeful, especially your conclusion --- getting rid of cars and they'd be just a blip in history, a failed experiment. What if we also got rid of cities (which will expand continually as they're part of civilization)? They would also became a mere blip in human history. I know you love cities, but I think they're unsustainable. As a part of civilization, cities continually grow and expand and exhaust their resources, just as civilizations themselves. That or we need a solarpunk future with solarpunk cities. Those are the only possibilities I see.

  43. Awesome video! I love and miss the Northwest! In my 25 years of growing up and living in the Northwest/Seattle metro area (been gone several years now), I used the following forms of transit: bike, skateboard, car, bus, train, light rail, monorail, canoe, row boat, small/local cruise ship, ferry, small prop plane, commercial airplanes (prop and jet). This video made me realize how many forms of transportation are available there. Wow!

  47. Awesome video! I appreciate you covering Native American cities. These indigenous communities were amazing. Some Pueblo cities were astronomically aligned. I would love to see these sites like Chaco Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, and Cahokia. I was fortunate to see some Mayan sites and holy cow -- the Mayans were amazing.

  50. @markvictor8776 Santa Cruz sounds amazing back in the day. That's cool you got go . The campus is amazing. Yes, Reed College is similar to how UCSC used to be and has a nice campus. The Evergreen State College is also similar to how UCSC was. Evergreen still doesn't have grades, whereas UCSC implemented grades in 2000, I believe. Both schools have weird mascots, too. Although Evergreen is changing and struggling now. I went there in 2005-2007. It's basically Hogwarts. I miss it.
