Comments by "pongop" (@pongop) on "Did pedestrian malls ruin U.S. downtowns?" video.
This got me thinking about the newest mall in Fresno (not that new anymore, but the latest one built). It is a private outdoor mall, which hosts a farmers market. You can drive through part of it, you can park right outside some stores and restaurants, but there are some stores you have to walk to. It seems like a combination of pedestrian mall and indoor mall. It has been pretty successful, as have the indoor malls, except the oldest indoor mall. It became less popular when the other indoor mall was built. They're trying to revitalize it currently. The downtown pedestrian mall (Fulton Mall) has been opened back up to cars for the last few years now, as stated in the video. I'm not sure how it's doing. I stopped going after it was converted back to streets, and some people still don't really go downtown.
