@blazer9547 How did your family get to America, pilgrim?

@louyou6614 Good question. Indians don't typically come here without papers.

Yeah, we're pretty bad at everything, especially compared to other countries

@dfdf-rj8jr Americans are complacent. And the US won't continue dominating the world for much longer. Europe and the US are declining, while China and India are rising (again) and eventually, African nations will.

they should be taught together so that the math will be practical and useful and easier to grasp (interdisciplinary learning)

@tattooedredheadx It's called maths in other countries

@jalapeno1119 It's called "maths" in other countries because it's short for mathematics. Educate yourself before you try to correct others.

That's great! I wish I had that option when I was a student in WA. I learned one semester of Fin Lit way back in 9th grade, but forgot it all. Then to graduate, I had to keep retaking the math part of the WASL because I struggle with math. I finally passed in the end because my cool counselor who administered the test trusted me and left me alone, so I used a calculator. So I didn't really learn financial literacy or math. In any case, I now teach Economics in California, and I ignore the state standards, which don't cover financial literacy, and my students mostly learn financial literacy instead.

@plasmaboy2265 Financial literacy is vastly more useful and usable than calculus!

@primius562 Wow, most US college students don't even learn that.

@blazer9547 You're just jealous and feel threatened because Indians who come here are more highly educated and skilled and likely to get better jobs and get paid more than you.

@blazer9547 Go back to Europe, pilgrim.

@dfdf-rj8jr Like when the European colonizers came here and killed the Indigenous people and stole their land? Was that legal? No human is illegal, you know...

So much education and yet we're still so uneducated. Hmm...

I had one semester of Fin Lit way back in 9th grade and of course don't remember anything. Now as a teacher, I've learned from a fellow teacher who included financial literacy in his Life Skills class, and I've taught myself, and now I'm helping my socioeconomically disadvantaged students learn financial literacy and empowerment. And we discuss why it isn't always required or taught like it used to be, and how this is by design. We connect financial literacy and empowerment with economic and social justice. I tell my students that you need to educate and empower yourself, your families, and communities about financial literacy.
