@joshk5157 india was on the verge of industrial revolution before the british came, it’s called proto-industrialization. regions like mysore and bengal were the wealthiest regions in the world because of this. for example, mughal bengal made up 12% of the world’s economy despite having only 3% of the world’s population, and they made up 40% of dutch exports outside europe. after independence from mughals, bengal continued to be an incredibly wealthy place, with textile weaving and farming wages comparable to britain. in certain areas like gdp per capita bengal even surpassed britain. as we all know, this industrial progress ended after britain invaded and looted the region, deindustrializing bengal to an abhorrent degree. however, after bengal was destroyed, mysore replaced bengal as india’s great proto-industrial power. back then in the 18th century, mysore’s gdp per capita and was around 2000, compared to britain’s 1800. this mainly came from silk, textiles, that sparked proto-industrialization. we can see this industrialization from iron rockets which mysore first developed and which britain later adopted, because you know, britain invaded mysore too, deindustrializing and looting the region just like bengal. you are right, caste system and brahmins didn’t help india’s economy. but islamic economics certainly did, as both mysore and bengal were ruled by islamic sultans. same with mughals, thus islamic economics was the reason for india’s wealth.

@joshk5157 yes because britain didn’t oppress the americans and australians because they were mostly british themselves - through genocide of natives of course. it was much the same in india, where the british were wealthier than indians through privilege. furthermore, when britain left america the americans had time to industrialize, while britain ended india’s industrialization bc india was colonized mostly in 19th century, after america was colonized.

@joshk5157 yes there will be no country called india nor pakistan, and that’s for the better because all these alternate independent kingdoms would have been incredibly wealthy at the very least. however, india as a cultural concept did exist before britain came, like how europe is a cultural concept.

@joshk5157 what in the world are you talking about... pharoahs did not exist in 18th century. egypt was economically stagnating under ottomans until muhammad ali almost industrialized egypt from 1815-1848. i’m saying, india’s was the richest because its gdp per capita was insanely high, higher than europe or china or africa. for example mysore’s gdp per capita was 2000 usd compared to britain’s 1800 usd in the 18th century, other european countries like france, germany, would have had even smaller gdp per capita. so yes, even if you combine all european countries in the 18th century, it would still have a smaller overall gdp than india. don’t even get me started on africa - that place barely had any people back then. the only real competitor to india before british came was china not europe.

@joshk5157 “very backward economjcally and full of underdevelopment... india was like that during mughal rule” that’s because the entire world was completely different back then, not just india. if you’re going apply modern standards to past centuries and say only india was backwards in the 17th century, then you should also say britain was backwards in 17th century; gdp per capita between two countries were comparable

it does not matter the technology, it matters the gdp. between 1800 and 1947 india's economy barely grew, because any extra wealth produced was looted by the britishers.

@joshk5157 colonialism benefited almost every country except india, pakistan, bangladesh. for example, africa cost the europeans more money than africa gave back, europeans colonized africa mainly for prestige, while britain colonized india for their wealth in opium, textiles, silk, tea, etc.

@joshk5157 you have a very flawed view of economics. textiles, opium, silk, and tea would obviously account for less of the gdp today because they aren’t as relevant to the global economy anymore. the fact that the british ruined their industries, stifling production, also didn’t help.

@UCGyB-7mPcF4ZLDrflggbmNw india is not on verge of industrialization because of the british. otherwise india would have likely industrialized in the 1840s at the latest, since bengal saw proto-industrial activity since 1700. also most of those social evils you mentioned basically apply to europe in the 1700s; but you’re talking about a hindu society. mysore and bengal were muslim societies. either way, there is not one way to industrialization, soviets and japanese had basically nothing in common with britain yet still industrialized.

@joshk5157 that’s what i’m saying bruv. but you’re acting as if india couldn’t develop its own industrial economy like britain. speaking of which, britain’s wool is also no longer valuable because of industrialization, yet britain still developed industrial economy. so why can’t india. industrial economies are not exclusive to specific nations.

@joshk5157 again you’re assuming india couldn’t have developed those hospitals and universities by themselves. and you keep mentioning caste, which was barely a feature in islamic societies like mysore and bengal. but even so, how much did those british hospitals and universities actually help india with its gdp per capita decline under british rule?

@joshk5157 british did not oppress americans at all to the degree you’re implying. britain didn’t even rule americans that much, they just sort of let the americans do their own thing without much crown interference, which is why american revolution never should have happened. in fact, british colonies in north america trusted the british more than they trusted each other.

@joshk5157 they may call it accomplishment because marathas or mughals or mysoreans did not loot their indian lands to the degree british did. ever wondered why india under mughal empire was top economy in the world only behind china, but british india’s economy was lower than britain’s? mughals and other rulers weren’t looking only for profit, they seeked to turn india into their home instead of a cash cow like how britain treated india. also stop bringing up caste. not all indian societies were caste, the most successful indian states were usually muslim.

@joshk5157 “mughals and islamic leaders are the ones who really destroyed india?” again, did you not read all those replies, links, sources, i sent you about indian economic growth under islamic rulers from the 16th to 18th centuries, and that india was the top economy of the world during mughal rule? even parts of india were economically dominant, just mughal and post-mughal bengal for example made up 12% of world gdp in 18th century despite only making up 3% of its population, all that wealth was looted by britishers and now bengal/bangladesh is a super poor region

@joshk5157 who cares what british gave to india. the fact is, british looted 45 trillion from india, stifled economic development, lowered living standards for a century in certain regions, and overall made india the shthole it is today especially since the inventions britain sent to develop india like which you mentioned were used not for indian people but for british profit at the expense of indians.

@joshk5157 mughals had great emperors that gave empire prosperity like akbar, jahangir. others are not so kind but nonetheless they continued indian economic growth so that their successor states like mysore, hyderbad, bengal could maintain living standards similar or higher to europe and china back then.

@joshk5157 we all know you are driven by apologism and a sense of western neoconservatism. i can see this from all your anti-biden videos. not that i care about biden much, in fact i prefer trump over biden. but anyways, you can’t just claim india should repay west for their electricity, bus, trains, aeroplanes, computers, mobiles, internet, the world doesn’t work that way. in that case, west should pay africa for all those hunter-gatherer tools, india for several mathematical concepts and iron rockets, islam for their numeral system, and china for tea, firearms, paper, printing press, proto-steam engine, proto-rockets. obviously britain shouldn’t pay these civilizations, so india shouldn’t pay britain either.

@joshk5157 i don’t know what you’re trying to say... mughals tried to veil indian women, since they didn’t outright want to do anything to indian women. in fact mughal emperors like aurangzeb tried to save indian women from suttee, or burning of widows.

@joshk5157 you’re talking about the most extreme islamic societies. there is not much polygamy, even in ottoman times. most muslim women can drive cars, even in saudi arabia thanks to the recent law. divorce is uncommon in islamic societies because it is seen as shameful, no matter how easy it is according to islamic law. not all countries have sharia law, even ottoman empire interpreted it differently. as for the ban on watching sports, idk what you’re talking about. and you’d have to be insane to think islamic jihad violence is threat to humanity - how many americans did islamists kill? 3000, right? how many muslims did americans kill? millions.

@joshk5157 please focus on my arguments. until you have a clear counterpoint to these facts, you’re not winning this debate: -india’s gdp per capita stagnated during british rule -india was in the process of proto-industrialization before british rule, especially in regions of mysore and bengal. all that progress was lost when british invaded and looted. -under mughals, marathas, mysoreans, bengalis, india was world’s top economy behind only china. during british raj, india was nowhere on the top list. -the average life of indian in 18th century was equal to or better than an average european or chinese. that changed under british rule. if britain wasn’t the cause for these sudden changes, tell me the real reason

@joshk5157 you’re not making any sense, that is not how gdp works. gdp is calculated over the course of a year, while britain took 45 trillion from india over the course of a century. so for example, british gdp in 1850 wouldn’t be 45 trillion because some of that money is spent and the full 45 trillion hasn’t even been collected yet. furthermore, gdp calculates all the goods and services produced within a year, it doesn’t calculate material wealth like the 45 trillion i mentioned. do you understand now?
