And loads of unknowns with the mainstream public such as Harakiri, the Human Condition trilogy, Samurai Rebellion, Come & See, El Cid, High & Low etc are already arguably better than Citizen Kane, Casablanca & Wizard of Oz. But they're just not as famous. That's the only difference, and fame is irrelevant to quality.

  39.  @mikedeeco11  Because it generally does what any great horror ought to do. It oozes an unsettling atmosphere, is genuinely eerie & terrifying. It avoids cliché jump scares like the mirror shot (Sure, there is one, but that's no jump scare). And the few jump scares that are there are superb due to the audience believing we would get it from somewhere else. Coupled with fantastic cinematography & a genuine bond that the audience forms with the victimized family, it really surprised me somewhat. Rare example of a superb new horror, not reliant on cheap scares, but on slowly and methodically unsettling its audience.

One of the many Matts Yes... well it is factually obvious that Seven Samurai is superior to The Dark Knight and anyone who claims otherwise is a biased comic fanboy with little cinema knowledge. Kurosawa for that matter is far superior to Nolan, and these are objective facts too. Kurosawa is far more consistent and far more complete. Just compare your average dynamics in the shots of both directors.. Kurosawa's are constantly flowing and moving so subtly while Nolan is always struggling especially at creating action scenes. Seven Samurai is in my personal top 10 too while TDK is probably somewhere around 500 i guess.
