  1. An untrained Taiwanese civilian can go to the beach and use binoculars and night vision equipment, or even the Mark 1 Eyeball. That being said, geography and home-field advantage already do a large portion of the Taiwan military's job. Formosa is a Switzerland surrounded by water, and the Chicoms know it.

  2. I agree, but it's not that simple, though Taiwan should develop a missile that can hit targets far inland, like Three Gorges Dam. That would be the equivalent of a nuke, without the nasty side-effects.
