  10. Meanwhile, Patton was keeping Wermacht and SS battalions intact and under German officer control, presumably to destroy the Soviet Union. Given that only the USA had nuclear weapons at that time, the Soviet Union would have been eliminated, giving their subjects liberty and rendering the Cold War an unnecessary inconvenience. Roosevelt or Truman should have supported Operation Unthinkable and saved the world a lot of trouble. Now we have the Soviet Reunion to deal with in Ukraine, which could have been nipped in the bud, along with many proxy wars such as the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
